Welcome to Reception Class !
A big welcome to Reception Class and many thanks for all your support with your child’s learning. If you have any questions or concerns, then please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff.
This term our topic is
"Do Cows Drink Milk?"
Most parents have now attended a Parent Teacher Consultation with Mrs Ashberry. If, for any reason, you missed your appointment then please don’t hesitate to speak to Mrs Ashberry to arrange a new time.
Please try to hear your child read as often as possible but at least 3 times a week.
Please remember that your child needs a PE kit in school
Please remember that we often have head lice in school, so check your child’s hair weekly.
We are beginning the countdown to Year 1 and as part of this we would like to encourage the children to start coming into school on their own each morning. We hope that you will support us by encouraging your child to leave you at the door and come into the cloakroom by themselves.
Of course if your child attends breakfast club you will still need to bring them into the hall and register them with Mrs Everington or Miss Mellors.
Many thanks for your continued support.

Yoga in Reception Class
Stevie came to visit us and taught us how to do yoga. We had a great time making our bodies into different shapes. We were dogs and snakes, cats and cows and even jumpy frogs. We saluted the sun with a beautiful dance and song. At the end of the session we took deep breaths and felt calm and relaxed on our mats. Namaste!
Chinese New Year
Gung Hei Fat Choi!
We have been learning about the Chinese New Year. We have learned that Chinese years all have an animal name and that this year it will be the Year of the Dog. We have also found out that we are all Dragons or Snakes and Mrs Ashberry and Miss Garratt are both Cockerals because of the years we were born in.
We have written or names using Chinese characters, decorated our classroom with paper lanterns and performed dragon and lion dances.
The Lincolnshire Smiles Project
We are taking part in the Lincolnshire Smiles Programme and have started brushing our teeth in school this week. Gina the Dental Nurse came to visit us in school this week. She gave us all our very own toothbrush to use in school and talked about how important it is to keep our teeth clean and healthy. We all had a go at cleaning our teeth with our new toothbrush and we did an amazing job! We will now clean our teeth after lunch every day at school as part of our daily class routine. Mrs Ashberry took some photos of us brushing our teeth so you can see how we are getting on.
Christmas in Reception Class
December has been a very busy month for our class. We started off the month by taking part in our Christmas Nativity Play with Year 1 and Year 2. We were all amazing on stage as angels and sang our song perfectly. Mrs Ashberry and Miss Garratt were really proud of all of us.
We also had a Christmas Party with the nursery children and wore our Christmas jumpers to school. We went into the hall to play party games and then we had Christmas lunch with the rest of the school.
Finally we made Christmas cards and decorations for our classroom and decorated the Christmas tree.
Class Blog - 6th November 2017
It has been a joyous and very busy week in Reception. We have had the glitter out for the first time this year and have created beautiful firework pictures. We also listened to firework music and imagined being different types of fireworks and we created our own firework soundscape with lots of bangs, pops and whooshes. We have written about fireworks and the noises they make. Mrs Ashberry has put our work on a display in the corridor and we hope that you enjoy looking at it. We are very proud of our work.
We also have done gymnastics in the hall on the large equipment for the first time this year. We learned to jump off the equipment safely and land on two feet, which is a very tricky skill to master!
Class Blog - 31st October 2017
The children have settled back into the routine of the classroom after their week away and have been full of news about the half term break.
We have been reading Meg and Mog stories this week and creating our own fizzing potions. We also talked about dressing up in different costumes, trick or treating and autumn festivities and we drew our costumes and wrote sentences about them. We made spider models using paper plates, pipe cleaners and tape. Mrs Ashberry has put all our lovely work up on the wall in the classroom.

It has been a very busy week in our class.
On Monday Mr Dan came to visit to teach us some circus tricks. We have been practising these skills all week in our outside area. We walked on a tightrope, we used some tricky wheels that moved up and down and we spun plates on sticks. We had lots of fun and there are some great pictures a bit further down this page.
We have also been enjoying our PE sessions and this week went into the hall all together for the first time for a movement and music session. We played musical statues and moved our bodies in lots of different ways.
On Thursday we went on a walk to the park where we kicked leaves and spotted squirrels. We collected lots of sticks, twigs, leaves, pine cones and made a big picture of a squirrel on the grass. See our great pictures further down the page!

This week our class planned our own Teddy Bears’ Picnic. On Monday we read the story “It’s The Bear” by Jez Alborough. The children were interested in having their own picnic so we decided to have one on Friday. On Wednesday we made a list of sandwich fillings and on Thursday we made our own sandwiches. Friday was the day of our very own Teddy Bear's Picnic! We all brought our teddies to school and in the afternoon we went into the hall and played bear games with the big parachute and had our picnic together.
We had lots of fun together.
We had a lovely Autumn walk in Boultham Park.
Dan the Circus Man came to school!
We all had great fun when Dan the Circus Man visited our school. We got to walk on stilts, did plate spinning and even got to walk on the tight rope!
