Our Dinosaur Workshop at the Collection
Chinese New Year
We celebrated Chinese New year in school.
We all took part in a Chinese dance workshop which was run by a lovely lady called Sol. She brought into school lots of Chinese parasols and fans for us to dance with.
Year 1 and Year 2 built together their very own Great Wall of China around school. It was amazing!! It was very long and went all the way around the school and the school hall. The children then got to walk it. Everyone showed great team work and worked together really well.
Mrs Denham held a Chinese Exercise Class at the start of the school day. We did it in the school hall as sadly it was raining outside. We learnt that in China, all children at school do exercises every morning.
We created some fabulous Art Work and looked at the colours and styles that are usually found in Chinese Art.
Please see our Gallery Page for lots of wonderful photographs of how we celebrated and learnt about China and Chinese New Year.
The Great Fire of London
The children in year 1 have been learning all about The Great Fire of London. They looked at how the fire started and how quickly it spread. As it all started with the baker making bread for the king, we decided to make our own bread. First of all the children explored the ingredients and we decided on a recipe. Then the children began to make the bread, kneading was hard work. The children baked the bread for different times; one batch for 10 minutes, one for 20 minutes and the final batch was in the oven for 30 minutes. The children had to predict what the bread would look and feel like when it came out of the oven at the different times. Once it had all been baked we explored the bread and talked about the differences. At the very end the children got to try some of the bread. They said it was delicious.
The Puppet Man Visits!
The Puppet Man came to school and we all had a fabulous day! We got to watch a puppet show and then all took part in a workshop. We had a go with the puppets and then we made up our own show!
